Sunday Morning Subtle But Obvious Organized Self Abuse Swim Club

I have a lot of memories, I seem to not be able to shut up the monkey mind, I over analyze. I now get to do all that while learning to type.

Danger Will Robinson

One of my readers from upstate NY has expressed interest in the SwimClub Radio project.
So, due to new contestants, I am announcing phase II. This time pick yer choicey, either: a look into your all-time musical soul, your all-time summer music or the stuff that totally rules your musical world in this moment.

Due to some extreme computer issues there is probably a fair amount of go time available to willing participants. Let’s say, try to inform me of your intention to play by July 1st. Then get me your submission by July 15th. Hopefully by then I’ll have found financing for a new laptop or have had the current lil’ missy repaired.

Also:
Future SwimClub Radio projects to think about in the interim:
an all the best train songs disc,
an all satellite songs disc,
and an all drugs songs disc (not including booze, that would have to be it’s own disc and I’m not sure I am interested in that).
These would work a little differently-
I would have people suggest the songs for the category, if I couldn’t get hold of them myself they might have to supply them, then I would make the comps. and send them out.
I am particularly interested in the satellite one at the moment. I have thought of about five songs with satellite in them and am anxious to know if there are more....
Satellite of Love
Planet Clare
That Trio song
That Elvis Costello song
That Luscious Jackson song
I’m sure between the lot of us we can come up with 20 or 25 can’t we?

Sauve. I already have most of my list I believe. Many things I couldn't fit last time and such.
Now if I can just get the computer shit figured out away we go....

Anyone have any satellite songs to add to the list yet? I know I have that Spaceman Cowboy guy on vinyl. Who is that? Eugene Chadborn or something? I bet he has a satellite song.

Oh, I'm in for this one.

What about moonage daydream by bowie or space oddity for that matter? Don't forget Telstar. You could argue that the beatles "all you need is love" works because it was debuted by live satellite link.

BTW have you tried using a cheap USB keyboard as a stop gap measure? I might be able to dig one up for you.

I ran through MADD in my head and he doesn't actually say satellite. I will have to think about it Space oddity for a minute, I think it doesn't either....
The rules- it has to actually say satellite at least once in the song. OR. The name of a manmade satellite would pass as well.
Now, what's Telstar? A band? A song by a band named after a satellite could count. A song? If so I haven't heard it yet, do so please hip me to it kind sir.
I would have to think about something that was first broadcast on satellite that's getting pretty obscure....

I sit here munching on a salad (baby spinach, raspberry hazelnut dressing, and a few slices of pepperoni) thinking about these rules. There are rules? I didn't know that. Let see what we can do with these rules. I'll have to think a bit about this.

Telstar is a song performed by the Tornado's circa 1962. In reality the tornado's were crazy song writer, producer Joe Meek. The song was later covered as TelCzar by (warning, shameless plug coming) that incredible quartet The Sounds of the Czars.

Sidebar, It seem that crazy producers and fire arms do not mix. Many years before Phil Spector finally lost it and killed someone, Joe Meek killed his landlady and then himself.

2 more songs to check on. I have some memory of a Clash song mentioning Sputnik. I need to find it. I also think the Bruce Springsteen's song with the refrain "57 channels and nothings on" may make mention of a satellite dish. I'm not certain of the songs official title.

OK wait, wait, wait, we're getting all mixed around here. The satellite thing is a future project and yes, there will be a couple qualifiers.
This round of SwimClub Radio is different. No rules just guidelines, which is, choose one of three subjects:
as many as you can cram on a dic of:

Yer all time favourite summertime music
or
Yer all time favourite, core of your musical soul, songs
or
The current state of your musical soul

Satellites is a longtime musing I've had and hope to accomplish sometime soon. I just thought I'd mention it now and get people thinking.

Incidentally, I'm assuming you might like copies of round one? So I might be calling sometime this week to make sure I have your correct address....

Sigh
and of course, that should be disc, not dic
