Sunday Morning Subtle But Obvious Organized Self Abuse Swim Club

I have a lot of memories, I seem to not be able to shut up the monkey mind, I over analyze. I now get to do all that while learning to type.

Cooking, calming, clearing

The other day when the anxiety started getting bad, I vacillated on taking “the pill”. I meant to and then forgot. But as the day went on I became more and more anxious. After grocery shopping I decided to try something different. I went in the kitchen and just cooked and cooked for a couple of hours. Acorn squash, beets, sweet and sour beet greens, chicken stock, potatoes, preparing the cilantro for making cilantro chutney (today).

Eh Voila the anxiety dissipated. It wasn’t about eating, I never really got a chance to eat more than a quick dinner. It was really about chopping shit, counting endlessly counting, the knife strokes and the number of pieces of this or that. The creative processes of thinking about which approach and seasoning to go with on each food. The movements, the focusing on efficiency and the economy of movement. The getting out of one head and into another. Connecting with my kitchen muse and completely letting go in a very controlled and focused way. I freakin’ LOVE cooking. It is actually a really good reason to love the weather change. I can finally get back into my kitchen, turn on the stove and get happy again.

I call him so

I attended Mr. Jacob “Shakin’ “ Woods memorial service Sunday. I took Uncle Bunny as he has known Mr. Woods as well.
It was not very elaborate, yet very well attended as one would naturally predict. There was a lot of his family there which was really very nice. The main “host” was Keith Hafner. He is not my cuppa tea whatsoever. Very, very, Xtian.

I saw many, many people that I haven’t seen in years. Including one person I hadn’t seen in about 30 years. I also saw the usual parade of human behavior which I (naturally) will kvetch about.

What is it about such an occasion that makes many people act so weirdly? They either make it all about themselves or all about God. It’s as if they can’t focus on the dead at all. I overheard much social “jockeying”. The whole “I am actually important here” thing.

I also have to notice that Jo Mathis excluded my interview from M-Live because it was a real story about real street life (which is where Mr. Woods spent his reality) and the real Mr. Woods. It was not some sanitized, charmed up, version of how some shopkeeper imagined his life to be. It was about how Mr. Woods saved my ass from a serial rapist late one night around ‘79 because one of the things he did was look out for the little, lost, kids. This is why Mr. Woods knew that anything he needed or wanted, if I had it to give, was his. Not the least of which is the title of Mister.

Dreams & wurms

Ooo I dreamed I had a job. Scary.
Selling Indian clothes at a Qwiky Mart all night on Sunday nights. Ridiculous.
Then I woke up with the H. R. Puffenstuf theme playing for an earworm. Sweet.

OK OK already

I admit it I have been nose deep in books, yes actual books, lately. At school they’ve got me reading Aristotle’s “Nicomachean Ethics” and if you don’t think that’s as thick and chewy as it gets you’d be wrong. Then in addition I went to the Kerrytown bookfest and spent WAY too much and added another stack to the perpetual “needs reading” pile. Following which I went to UBU’s bookstore and added another bundle. I have just about finished a Rod Serling collection which offered up a bunch of nice horror I’ve never run across before, including a really cool Nathaniel Hawthorne. As well as an incredibly dark, weird, apocalyptic story by Jane Roberts. I have to wonder if it’s “my” Jane Roberts, as in the author of the Seth material. The time frame is certainly right.

There is also the fact that we now have internet on only one computer for awhile and the demand for my lap box has gone way up. So basically these are excuses for why I suck. Pictures this weekend I promise.

Sunday morning midpoint earworm

While Kitchen cleaning and catching up on composting this one popped. Rather appropriate for the moment...

Sadie - The Commodores (I’m pretty sure)

The lyric is:
“Early one Sunday morning,
Breakfast was on the table,
there was no time to eat
she said to me,
“Boy hurry to Sunday School....”

“Sadie (Sadie May)
don’t you know we love you
sweet Sadie
place no one above you
sweet Sadie
living in the past
well it’s funny
how no money
can turn your head around”
etc., etc.

AM earworm

Me covering Patti Smith’s cover of “Gloria”.
I had a very weird dream wherein the whole family sang a rousing version. One of those damnable Geico cavemen showed up as well, feh. He was courting a medieval damsel.... apparently time has lost it’s rigidity in my brain. I suppose I’m well primed for a trip to the creationist museum now.

Blame it on the boogie

Blame everything on the yard sale
No really. It really is it’s fault. It put me so far behind in everything:
School reading
Housework (and created extra)
Bill Paying
Eating properly
Blogging

I have had to just get my hyper-focus on all week and put my life back together. So that’s that and that’s all done. Now I have to go uptown and try to undue some of the damage neglecting the bills has done. I may have lost my safe deposit box. That would really suck.....

i haven’t even had time to read the newspaper since Sunday. I keep buying ‘em, they keep piling up, maybe tomorrow.....
