Sunday Morning Subtle But Obvious Organized Self Abuse Swim Club

I have a lot of memories, I seem to not be able to shut up the monkey mind, I over analyze. I now get to do all that while learning to type.

I’m special

Haven’t felt much like blogging lately. Several things offer themselves as explanations.

One is that I started a new job before I had finished the old one. Since working at all makes me feel a little put upon, this has caused me to feel double PU’d.

Also there were many birthday festives and excesses drawing my attention as well as tiring me out. Apparently I only do the social for one week solid around now, one week sporadic around Thanksgiving and one week solid around XMAS/New Year.

Also, I’m feeling monitored and spied on, here, lately. Not sure whether there is any basis in reality. But it’s inhibiting. Annoying that.

So I’ll be going to three days a week next week for work, as well as starting a new class, “Social and Political Philosophy”. Whether that will help or hinder, remains to be seen.

Issues and tissues

I have a new pet peeve.
I live in this town where the average IQ is meant to be a good bit above the norm. I have been playing the myfacespacebook game lately, particularly facespace. And it’s all “HOT” amongst the thirties/forties crowd who didn’t catch onto it lo all those many years ago when it first hit. ( What’s that? All of five now or something? )
What I’ve noticed is, that (a) this is geared to having you use your real name. (b) because these people are in their thirties and forties many of them have young children. (c) A huge percentage of them are posting their profile pictures posed with their children, or as their children, or putting photographs of their children in their photo albums frequently with the child's real name.

DO NOT EVER PUT YOUR CHILD’S PHOTOGRAPH/NAME ON THE INTERNET!!!!!!

My question is this, why would this feel magically safer than any other internet venue? Even if your profile is set to private, if you have a picture of yourself posed with your child as your profile foto THEY now have your child’s last name, usually town of residence and if you are in the phone book, now your address. From that all manner of further information can be extrapolated. For instance, the likelihood of what school that child goes to. Potentially records about you or your child depending on how internet savvy THEY are. The list goes on but name, address and school is horribly, horribly dangerous.

The other issue being that even if you are private and you don’t have your child in your profile picture, if you have a wide range of friends from business, or wide social networking you really don’t know those people that well. Do you really want relative strangers knowing much of anything about your child?

You are supposed to be really clever people. What are you thinking? Yes I have a picture of myself as a four year old for one of my profiles. But it’s me, not my non-consenting child, it’s not under my real name, and even if it was and someone came looking to prey on that four year old person they would be in a big old can of whup ass and finding it quite difficult to put the Alpo back in the can.

I think the level of naiveté here is much higher than I expected, and the actual level of sophistication is much lower than these folks think they are operating from.

Dream Morbidity

Boy am I glad I woke up when I did. I was very close to having sex with Charlie Manson. Who, apparently, can smoke through his navel and really digs the scent of 4711 and orange oil.
I don’t think you’re going to find that in your dream book UBU.

What I cooked....

(Lest ye forget this is a cooking show.)

Cleaning out Uncle Bunny’s kitchen required that I make quite a bit of room in my own overstuffed kitchen. I resolved to cook up many things so that they would be eaten and duly flushed away, leading to more spaciousness.

I craved cake anyway, so first thing in the morning I baked a vanilla cake. Much later in the day I realized that no, I couldn’t be content with just plain, unadorned, cake. That led to another trip back to Uncle Bunny’s, as I had lent him my mixer after packing his, and then had forgotten to fetch it home again. Whipping cream or making frosting w/out a mixer is something I will never, ever, want to do again in life. Better to waste the gas driving back over. Vanilla, butter cream, frosting was made and duly applied. Nigel and I licked the beaters.

I made porridge for breakfast, as I now have grits, cornmeal mush, 2 kinds of porridge oats, farina, Grape-nuts, and quinoa flakes all waiting to be eaten as hot cereal as the days and nights grow colder. Let’s hope my resolve to do so actually lasts.

Then I made baby back ribs with my homemade BBQ sauce. (No High Fructose Corn Syrup!)

I also made the base for a big batch off stuffing. Meaning that I did up meripoix style all of the carrots, celery, onion, and mushroom in the house (in lots of butter). Ready to be added today to the bread that’s been drying overnight.

I made a huge pot of Red Lentil Soup with Lemon and Cilantro. It’s my new favourite soup but this pot is a little dull. It seems like an entire bunch of cilantro just isn’t enough? I added freshly crushed coriander seed this morning. We’ll see if that adds back the sparkle...

Then I whipped up a batch of red skin potato salad with sour cream and dill dressing. Oliver had previously complained that it needed more oomph. So this time I added a lot more fresh ground black pepper, as well as bacon crumbles and quite a bit of fine chopped scallion.

In between all of that Oliver made us burritos for lunch. So, yes, the kitchen is happy to have cooler weather back, as it was sadly neglected during those deathly days of July. Although I had done some gazpacho and quite a bit of cold salads. It was more of a commando style, get in, get out, situation.

And even though I destroyed the kitchen three or four times over yesterday, I managed to leave enough surfaces clean so that Nigel could do up his continental breakfast this morning.

Today I will finish off the stuffing, to be frozen against the next time I roast chicken. That should be soon too as it is finally cool enough for, what I suspect, is my favourite food. There is nothing in the world to me like a lovely, roast, Amish fowl with gravy and stuffing.... It could almost make me happy to see fall.

I will also do up a nice snow pea stir fry, with Freddie steak strips and water chestnut. Served up with sushi rice and good shoyu, it should make Oliver pretty happy as he loves beef with snow peas. Then I think a medium size casserole of mac and cheese to use up all the cheese ends from Uncle Bunny’s fridge should about do it for a couple of days. Hmm, maybe even for the week.

Speaking of Music

All right you kids, that is, you out of town kids, this is it. Swimclub Radio II is going into production now that I’m unemployed again. If you are in, make some feeble beckoning motions, otherwise I am proceeding without you. That would make it a small production, just amongst us, cool, townie, types.

I know I’ve been lax on cracking the whip on ya’s, but now that Uncle Bunny is safely and thoroughly packed off to Houston (forever), I can suddenly have a life again. And the first order of business in that new life was cooking my ass off this weekend, followed by a burst of well intentioned, but possibly futile, busy work, starting today.

So what’s the deal-io? Is ya in or is ya out?

Speaking of The Grantchester Question

I will be adding a link to our new myspace page as soon as I get less lazy.
As well as that it appears we will be @ The Old Miami on Aug. 23 with The Czars and one other band whose details I don’t have yet.
New, insider, dirt intimates that The Czars have a new singer, none other than Nitro Von Borax. This should prove to be a VERY interesting development!

Between stuff like that, and Sid & Marty Krofft, and the Banana Splits, and all the other backwards trippingness that was piped into my brain between infant hood and 20, why was anyone surprised that I grew up to be a squid?

As well as, what is up with the Tree Dog Night potion of my brain suddenly becoming all active? That could have cheerfully just stayed dormant.....

Dream reality?

Last night in a dream, a (in real life fairly demure) friend of mine told me, she and her husband were “trying a lot of anal and I’ve been doing cocaine like a Maryland whore.”

Do Maryland whores have some reputation for this or did I, as usual, make this up out of whole cloth?

He said/she said

He should have said “They are proud of acting ignorant” as opposed to “being ignorant”.
There are several reasons.

One is that those guys are the most calculated, well oiled, hate filled. thanotoser, machine cogs, ever and it sure isn’t ignorance that makes them say such things.

Secondly, every petty psych major wannabe like me, knows you don’t tell children they are assholes but rather that they are acting like assholes.....

Thirdly, you know that really hard thing, that thing about hate the sin but not the sinner? Yeah, theoretically, we’re still trying for that.

P.S. First ever time using a label of politics

Sheer Terror

The guys from the city were out there today assessing and marking the sidewalks for repair. I was sick to my stomach while watching them. This is the kind of thing that sets off my most intense fears. The Gub’ment telling me what I can and cannot, will and will not, do. With no recourse at all available. It’s just “hey you who just had to borrow money for your taxes, hee hee hee, give us more, more, more, bwahahahahahahahah.” I hate that.

So I holla’d out my window to the fresh faced young man in his little fluorescent vest, faded jeans and worker dude boots “Hey, please be nice to my house. I haven’t worked since 2005”. He gave a cheery smile and said “Hey, you’ve only got three, for a corner lot you’re doing good”. I guess I’ll have to accept that that is pretty good, because I had anticipated at least eight. So, I (reluctantly) should count my blessings, albeit rather wanly....
